BIWA caring for the environment
The environment is one of BIWA's goals. Recently BIWA donated 1.500 Albesia trees valued at Rp. 3,000,000 to the people of Selisihan Village in Klungkung area (South Bali) to cover 2 hectares of land. The people requested Albesia tree which will be harvested in 5 years for plywood use for building.
These trees, hopefully, will improve the economy of the local people. Of course after the harvest they must replant trees. It's up to the local people to take care of them but BIWA intends to keep track of the progress of this environmental project.
The Selisihan Village people organized a tree planting ceremony and Gaye Warrant & Sharon Watkins were honored to plant the first tree together. The other BIWA members who attended were Rejane, Yusmartini, Melly, Lizzie, Indra, Dayang and Mala. Everyone brought cookies, milk, clothes, candy etc. for the villagers.
We were welcomed most graciously by the local people and it was an enjoyable trip with magnificent rice paddy views. Why not join us next time ... you won't regret it.
