Application for Membership/Renewal
The aims of BIWA shall be to:
- To foster friendship and mutual understanding between women of different nationalities;
- To contribute to social welfare, education, and improvement of the lives of underprivileged people living in Bali, in particular women and children.
BIWA intends to fulfill its aims by:
- Conducting membership meetings;
- Organizing educational, cultural and other social events;
- Planning member activities based on shared interests;
- Maintaining a library;
- Supporting activities for the purpose of social welfare;
- Providing educational assistance for deserving Indonesian individuals;
- Publishing a monthly newsletter and promote BIWA through other media partners in the wider community;
- Maintaining contact with similar organizations within Indonesia;
- Any other legal means. At no time shall Association events be undertaken for commercial purposes other than in the fulfillment of the aims in Article 2.
Eligibility
Members of BIWA shall meet the following criteria:
- living in Bali and over 17 years of age
- committed to support BIWA in activities designed to achieve its aims
Categories of Members
The membership of BIWA shall be composed of the following categories:
- Full members: have to be actively involved in promoting the aims of BIWA. They pay the regular subscription.
- Associate members: Women who wish to socialize, but for personal reasons can’t commit to being actively involved in promoting BIWA’s aims. They pay a higher subscription than full members because they cannot be active.
- Golden members: members who fulfill both the following requirements:
- have been a full member of BIWA for 15 years and served at least one term at the board
- are at least 60 years of age
- Honorary members. The Governors Wife and also any honorary member chosen for outstanding services to BIWA by the discretion of the board and acclaim of the membership every two years.
Application and Induction
- Every woman interested in becoming a BIWA member receives a leaflet as guidance, explaining the conditions of becoming a member with a section to apply for membership that can be torn off.
- Candidates for membership are invited to a special Induction Meeting, and accepted for membership, four (4) times a year: in March, June, September and December. Prior to this, candidates attend luncheon meetings and BIWA activities as guests.
- Membership is not transferable.
Obligations, Rights and Benefits
A member in good standing has the following obligations:
- Full and Associate Members: payment in full of the annual fees when due. Fees are considered in arrears if not paid by end of March of each year.
- Golden and Honorary Members are exempt from the obligation to pay dues (but still have to pay for luncheons and activities).
- Attendance at a minimum of 4 meetings a year and at the Annual General Meeting (either in person or by proxy).
- It is strictly forbidden for a BIWA member to give the membership list to non-members.
- At the Induction Meeting the constitution and by-laws and the various functions and committees working within BIWA are explained. New members commit themselves, in writing, to assist at least one board member/committee.
- A new member is issued her Membership Card after membership fee is paid.
- She has a right to receive a hard copy of the membership list, which will be distributed in the month of April and after that to new members. Quarterly additions are distributed at the luncheon.
- Only Full Members and Golden Members have the right to vote.
- Benefits for members include: discounts on tables hired at BIWA’s fundraising events and other discounts that go with the BIWA Membership Card.
